Analysis And Positioning Of Common Roof Tiles

04-07-2023

The lifespan of a building is closely related to the quality of tiles. Choosing the right roof tiles to ensure the lifespan of a house is crucial when matching the tiles well. So what kind of tiles can the roof be covered with to ensure a longer lifespan? How to choose a suitable tile? We need to analyze the building structure, roof tile materials, and local environment together to determine the quality of roof tiles and place the most suitable tiles on the most accurate building.

Clay roof tiles

Clay tiles are tiles made from clay and shale as the main raw materials, which are formed, dried, and roasted, and are called clay tiles. The production process of clay tiles is similar to that of clay bricks, but requires high quality of clay, such as low impurities, high plasticity, and high degree of homogenization of the clay material.

The clay tiles produced in China include small green tiles, ridge tiles, and flat tiles, which were popular among the people in the past due to their cheapness. However, clay tiles can only be applied to roofs with larger slopes. Due to the shortcomings of brittle materials, heavy weight, small size, low construction efficiency, and the need for a large amount of wood, the proportion of modern building roofing materials has gradually decreased.

Ceramic tiles

Ceramic tiles are made from clay and other synthetic materials by drying wet embryos and firing them at high temperatures. The natural color of clay is simple and natural, but its glossiness is not good enough, making it suitable for self built residential buildings.

In recent years, ceramic tiles have been widely used in the construction industry in China. However, with the increasing protection of land resources by the country, some ceramic tiles and clay building materials (including ceramic tiles, clay bricks, red bricks, etc.) have begun to be restricted in some cities, and the use of new roof and wall materials is strongly encouraged.

Asphalt tile

Asphalt shingles are made of fiberglass felt as the main material and coated with petroleum asphalt.

Asphalt tiles are inexpensive, have diverse shapes and colors, are lightweight and convenient for construction, but asphalt is prone to aging and has a short lifespan. The deadliest method is the use of bonding and nails to cover asphalt shingles. Bonding asphalt shingles on wooden roofs, supplemented by nails, can still withstand a certain amount of wind force. However, on cast-in-place concrete roofs, due to the difficulty of nailing, it mainly relies on bonding, often resulting in weak bonding or glue failure. In the event of strong wind force, it will be blown off, posing a significant safety hazard.

Resin tile

Resin tiles are divided into natural resin tiles and synthetic resin tiles, and the commonly referred to resin tiles on the market are synthetic resin tiles. Synthetic resin tiles are not resistant to high temperatures, easy to fade, and have poor thermoplastic expansion, making them unsuitable for flat roofs.

However, this material is a new type of environmentally friendly roof building material promoted by the country, which is durable and not easy to fade. It is also lightweight and convenient for construction, and is widely used in the "flat to sloping" project currently being vigorously promoted in China.
