What Are The 4 Basic Types Of Terrazzo ?

21-07-2023

Terrazzo stoneis a unique floor decorative composite material, which is composed of cement or epoxy resin as the binder, adding pieces of marble, granite, quartz stone, glass, shell or other suitable materials. It is installed in the form of casting or prefabrication, mainly used for floors, countertops, walls, stair steps, tables and chairs, chairs, and other customized products. When cast-in-place construction is carried out, metal strips are usually added to divide the area for color transition, and decorative patterns or signs can be designed.

  • Type of Terrazzo stone

① Ordinary Terrazzo ② Inorganic Terrazzo (inorganic terrazzo) ③ Epoxy Terrazzo (epoxy terrazzo)

  • Introduction to ordinary Terrazzo stone

Ordinary Terrazzo floor is a building material made by mixing glass, quartz stone and other raw materials into cement. The thickness is generally between 15mm-20mm. It is widely used in buildings because of its high wear resistance, no dust accumulation, strong decoration and other characteristics.

Its advantages are mainly reflected in aspects such as wear resistance, durability, dust-free, and environmental protection. It was popular nationwide in the 1970s and 1980s, and many schools, hospitals, bus stations, offices, train stations, and other places use this material. However, with the improvement of living standards, its shortcomings have also been exposed, such as single color, easy cracking, long construction cycle, and the need for a large number of separation strips. There is still no effective solution to these problems.

  • Introduction to epoxy Terrazzo stone

Epoxy Terrazzo uses epoxy resin as the matrix. The matrix is a two-component resin. The thickness is generally between 5mm and 10mm. Of course, it can be thicker, but that means the price will be higher. It is recommended that the epoxy Terrazzo be moisture-proof during installation or use anti crack inhibiting film to effectively prevent cracking.

Compared with ordinary Terrazzo and inorganic Terrazzo, this material has the advantages of rich color, full color, light weight, high strength (PSI rate is 10000+), short construction period, impermeable surface and not easy to crack. It is generally used in high-end hotels, conference halls, office buildings, sales offices and other high-end places. It also has drawbacks, such as being only suitable for indoor use, as epoxy resin will oxidize under continuous ultraviolet radiation, resulting in various cracking problems.

  • Introduction to inorganic Terrazzo stone

Inorganic Terrazzo uses special cement as the matrix, and the thickness is generally between 8mm and 10mm. Like epoxy Terrazzo, it can be thicker, but the price will rise accordingly. When installing inorganic Terrazzo, only the interface agent is needed for priming, and then the mesh cloth and interface mortar are paved to effectively prevent cracking.

Inorganic Terrazzo has obvious advantages. It is rich in color, light in weight, high in strength, fast in drying time (people can get on in 2 hours), wear-resistant, durable, and outstanding in environmental protection. It is generally used in workshops, underground garages, shopping malls, office buildings, high-speed railway stations, airports, schools, hospitals, outdoor squares and other areas with large traffic. It has to be said that the service life of this material is usually over 30 years, and after proper maintenance, it can even achieve the same lifespan as the building.
