What Not To Use On Terrazzo Floors ?
Precautions for daily maintenance of Terrazzo floor
1. Do not wax arbitrarily
There are many types of wax on the market, including water-based wax, stearic acid wax, oily wax, acrylic wax, and so on. These waxes not only block the pores that breathe in the stone, but also stain and form wax, causing yellowing on the surface of the stone.
2. Do not cover carpets or debris for a long time
To maintain smooth breathing of the stone, it is necessary to avoid covering the stone surface with carpets and debris for a long time, otherwise the moisture under the stone cannot evaporate through the fine pores of the stone. If the stone is too wet and the water content increases, it will cause stone damage.
3. Thoroughly maintain cleanliness and cleanliness
Both hard granite and softer marble are not resistant to long-term damage from wind, sand, and soil particles. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly use dust collectors and dust shovels to carry out dust removal and cleaning work. It is best to place dust removal pads at the entrance of the hall to filter the sand particles carried by the shoes and reduce the wear of sand and dust on the stone surface.
4. To immediately remove pollution
All stones have natural pores, and pollution sources (such as oil, tea, coffee, cola, soy sauce, ink, etc.) can easily penetrate into the interior of the stones along the pores, forming annoying stains. Therefore, it is necessary to choose high-quality stone specific protective agents to apply on the stones to prevent pollution sources from polluting the stones. It should be noted that all protective agents cannot completely block pollution for a long time, so once a source of pollution falls on the stone, it must be immediately removed to prevent pollutants from seeping into the capillary pores of the stone.
5. Always maintain ventilation and dryness
Stone is afraid of high environmental humidity. Water vapor can cause hydration, hydrolysis, and carbonation of stone, resulting in water spots, whitening, weathering, erosion, rust yellowing, and other pathological changes, which can damage the stone. Therefore, when installing stone materials, it is necessary to maintain ventilation and dryness.
6. Regular protective measures should be taken
To maintain the life of Terrazzo stone and block the penetration of water and pollution sources, protective treatment must be carried out regularly (1-2 times in 1-3 years depending on the type of stone and the quality of protective agent). The quality of protective agents must be given special attention. After construction, it shall be able to maintain the air permeability, waterproof and antifouling properties of the permeable millstone. Do not use protective agents with unknown sources to avoid not only failing to achieve protective effects, but also increasing the difficulty of stone maintenance.
